About the Oklahoma written test
Knowledge (written) test: 20 multiple-choice questions; you must answer 15 correctly (75%) to pass. Time limit 60 minutes. Covers Oklahoma traffic laws, road signs, and safe-driving practices from the Oklahoma Driver Manual. It can be taken online (up to two attempts before you must test in person) or at a Service Oklahoma location; currently offered in English only. A $4.00 fee is added for each failed attempt (collected at issuance). Completing an approved driver-education course waives the written test (parent-taught does not).
Vision test: screened at the licensing visit.
Road (drive/skills) test: the examiner directs the route and maneuvers. You must show you can control the car; perform turns, backing, parking on a hill, and parallel parking; use signals and stay in the proper lane; obey signs, markings, and signals; apply right-of-way rules; and respond to other vehicles and pedestrians. The test vehicle must pass a safety inspection, have valid registration, and be covered by insurance; no pets or extra passengers allowed. Retakes: up to three attempts, each at least one day apart; after a third failure you must wait 30 days, and any further attempts are limited to once every 30 days.
Getting licensed in Oklahoma
Age 15: must be enrolled in and receiving instruction in a Service Oklahoma–approved driver-education course, and must pass the written knowledge test.
Age 16+: driver education is *optional*; you only need to pass the written knowledge test (the test can be waived by presenting a driver-ed completion certificate — parent-taught driver ed does not waive it).
