About the Georgia written test
Knowledge (written) test: Split into two sections — Road Rules (20 questions) and Road Signs (20 questions). You must pass each section independently with at least 75% (15 of 20 correct) in each.
Vision test: Required at application.
Road (skills) test: Required to obtain the Class D (and Class C). On passing the road skills test, the unrestricted Class C license is issued (when age-eligible).
Getting licensed in Georgia
Learner's Permit (Class CP): Available at age 15. Applicant must pass the knowledge test (road rules and road signs) and a vision test. The permit holder must always be accompanied by a licensed driver age 21+ holding a valid Class C license, seated next to the driver.
Provisional License (Class D): Available at age 16 after holding the Class CP permit for at least 1 year and 1 day with no major traffic convictions. The applicant must complete 40 hours of supervised driving (6 of them at night). Under Joshua's Law, 16- and 17-year-olds must also complete an approved 30-hour driver education course plus 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training (or 40 hours of parent-taught training). Class D carries restrictions:
Nighttime curfew: no driving between 12:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. — no exceptions.
Passenger limits (three stages): during the first 6 months after issuance, no passengers except immediate family members; during the second 6 months, no more than one passenger under 21 who is not immediate family; after one year, no more than three passengers under 21 who are not immediate family.
